MonierLifetile EDUCATES MARKETPLACE ON cool roofs, California Title 24

New educational video and brochure explain cool roofing requirements

IRVINE, Calif. (October 5, 2009) National concrete roof tile manufacturer MonierLifetile® is partnering with the California Energy Commission to inform and educate building professionals on California Title 24 new building code requirements related to cool roofing.

In August, MonierLifetile hosted a seminar for the building community in Irvine, Calif. More than 100 builders, architects and roofing contractors attended the event. The standing room only event was so well attended, the company has now made the seminar available to everyone through its website. The video of the seminar and accompanying brochure can be viewed or downloaded at www.monierlifetile.com by clicking the video button in the Energy Efficient Roof System section of the homepage.

New code requirements for cool roofs in California will take effect January 1, 2010 as part of California Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. The educational video and brochure focus on current and future requirements for cool roofs in California.

According to Chris Doelle, vice president of sales and marketing for MonierLifetile, the seminar provides critical information to the building community. “There’s a real need for building professionals to understand the intricacies of the code changes and how this will impact their new construction and reroof projects,” Doelle said. “Our goal with this podcast is to share this data on cool roofs with the building community at large,” he added. “Cool roofs and energy efficiency are critical throughout the nation.”

Cool roofs are highly reflective, highly emissive roofing materials that stay 50 to 60 degrees cooler than a normal roof under a hot summer sun, offering homeowners considerable cost savings. Concrete roof tile is an energy efficient cool roofing solution.

MonierLifetile is the leading manufacturer of concrete roof tile across North America. The company’s innovative Energy Efficient Roof System utilizes an elevated batten system, vented eave risers and ridge guards to reduce energy costs. Studies have shown the system can reduce the amount of heat penetrating the conditioned space by 50% versus direct-to-deck installations, resulting in 22% lower energy consumption.

Local Company Provides Green Alternative to Bottled Water Dangers

(Sparks, Nevada, USA) – With the FDA’s current regulation scrutiny on the bottled water industry, Haws Corporation®, a local Northern Nevada company, has an immediate solution to the fears and concerns associated with bottled water. Haws recently introduced their newest product - the HydrationStationTM - a hands free, sensor operated, filtered water dispenser. In the past several years bottled water manufacturers have recalled water contaminated with bacteria, arsenic and other cleaning compounds. The industry currently isn’t required to report tests that show up positive for contamination, but municipal water authorities are required to report dangerous contaminants within 24 hours. The HydrationStationTM hooks up to a municipal water line, and uses state-of-the-art filter technology providing the user with completely safe, clean tap water.

Daily, Americans use 60-million bottles of water, with only 2 out of every 10 bottles actually recycled. By using the HydrationStationTM users will be able to utilize re-usable bottles and consequently reduce waste and its harmful effects on the environment. Several college campuses, including UC Berkeley, Georgian College in Ontario and Penn State, have already taken the initiative and supported a ban the bottle approach to water supply and have installed HydrationStations throughout their campuses. Visit www.stayhydrated.net for more information on the HydrationStation™ water delivery system and to view the product video.

FOSI Takes to the Skies

Fiber Optic System Inc. Adds FOSI Star Ceilings as an Official Division

With the company experiencing exponential growth in star ceiling sales orders, a decision was made to create a new division under Fiber Optic Systems Inc.  FOSI Star Ceilings is now the official division that designs and manufactures star ceilings.  “With so much attention on the star ceiling aspect of the business, I decided that it was best to organize a separate division for star ceiling orders,” says Cyr Ryan, owner and president of FOSI.

FOSI began its journey into the world of star ceilings in 1994 when it designed and manufactured the star ceiling for the first Rainforest Café in Minneapolis’ Mall of America.  Since then, FOSI has created over 50 star ceilings for the Rainforest Café locations alone, both in the U.S. and abroad.  In recent years, FOSI opened up its design to other commercial and residential clients and has completed well over 450 additional star ceilings.

Two design aspects set FOSI aside from other star ceiling companies: a custom approach and an astronomically correct design.  Flexibility in design allows the FOSI team to personalize each star ceiling for the customer.  Various shapes, sizes, and even material type are available at request.  Generally based on the September night sky as seen from North America, viewers enjoy the dimmed Milky Way, constellations, comets, and even shooting stars.  All of these effects are achieved with the use of just one FOSI-patented illuminator.  Blue fibers joining the stars of a particular constellation create a recognizable outline of the constellation.  The blue fibers are lit with an additional lamp in the illuminator.  A second illuminator is used for the addition of fireworks and sound effects to the night-sky scenery.

Alterations in design have occurred over the years, and the company is using its more than 30 years of experience to help home theater companies minimize labor costs.  Recent changes to the design of the panel system allow for 90% of the work to be completed by the FOSI team.

Fiber Optic Systems Inc. is a manufacturer of quality custom fiber optics displays, exhibits, signage, and special effects since 1970.  FOSI is located in Whitehouse Station, NJ.
