What began as a simple “honor drive” for Judy Meagher, wife of BANN Past President Ed Meagher, has become a series of life-saving blood drives hosted by the Builders Association Charity for the benefit of our entire community.
For members and non-members alike, these drives have become an every nine-week habit. In this economic climate, so many of us want to do something to give back to our community but are challenged to do so financially. Each of the six drives scheduled in 2010 is an opportunity to “give back” in an extremely personal way, yet requires no financial commitment from the donor.
Because of the generous spirit of so many, we have out grown United Blood Service’s mobile unit! Each of the drives in 2010 has been and will be conducted in the Board Room of the Builders Association of Northern Nevada. It is a comfortable setting allowing donors to relax and visit with one another. They are treated to “Triple Chocolate Chunk Brownies” as well as other baked goodies. For those who donate in or around the lunch hour, lunch is also served. This would not be possible without the support of the sponsors, who contribute $100.00 towards this endeavor.
Below is a schedule of the remaining four drives of 2010. We hope that you will give it a try. United Blood Services provides a terrific “rewards” program, which allows donors to take advantage of free movie tickets, CD’s and DVD’s just to name a few. With each person’s donation free cholesterol screening is included and is displayed in the form of a bar graph on United Blood Services website.
