AB148 (OSHA TRAINING): How do you know which class to take?

It is easy to be confused as to which class to take for the OSHA training. 10 hour or 30 hour? Below is a simple explanation of the differences. Still confused? Call The Builders Association of Northern Nevada at (775) 329-4611 and ask for clarification.

If you are a worker on a jobsite who tells other employees what to do, how to do something, when to do something, or where to do something—and if you have the ability to discipline, hire, fire, or evaluate—then you would need the OSHA 30 class. If you’re the person that is being told what, where, when, how….and if you don’t do it you can be disciplined or fired or demoted….then you need the OSHA 10 class. If you are physically present on a jobsite (i.e., you aren’t estimating from a set of plans) but you’re out there measuring or overseeing the installation by someone else (that’s not your employee), then you would need the OSHA 10 card (not a 30 because you are not supervising an employee). It’s the physical presence on a jobsite that is the trigger. This is because you are also exposed to the hazards of a jobsite. An example would be a materials deliveryman…..if he drives the truck with materials to the site, gets out and unloads the product, then he would need the 10 card. If he pulls up with the materials, sits in the driver’s seat and one of the site laborers unloads, then he does not need a card at all.

A note about OSHA 30: If you complete training PRIOR to 12/31/09 (before the new law is effective) your OSHA card is good for LIFE! After 12/31/09, the OSHA Card is subject to 5 year renewals.

OSHA 10 (in Spanish) - $80 per person: Saturday, October 24th (7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.)
OSHA 30 – (4 sessions totaling 30 hours)- $235 per person : Friday, December 4th (3:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
Saturday, December 5th (7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.) * Friday, December 11th (3:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
Saturday, December 12th (7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.)
